(File Photo)All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Mallikarjun Kharge is expected to return to work on Friday, a day after he was discharged from a Bengaluru hospital following a pacemaker implantation.
Kharge, 83, had been admitted to the M S Ramaiah Hospital earlier this week after reporting breathlessness over a prolonged period.
“The pacemaker implantation procedure…was successfully completed earlier today. It was a short and minor procedure and he has been stable after the procedure. He is expected to resume his work from October 3 and attend all his scheduled engagements,” Kharge’s son and Karnataka Congress minister, Priyank Kharge, said on social media. He also expressed “gratitude for the concern, support and affection extended by all”.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had visited Kharge on Wednesday and stated that his health had improved. “I visited AICC President Mallikarjuna Kharge, who is undergoing treatment at M.S. Ramaiah Hospital in Bengaluru, to inquire about his health, and his condition is now good,” he said earlier this week.
In a social media post, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also mentioned that he had spoken to Kharge following his hospitalisation. “Spoke to Kharge Ji. Enquired about his health and wished him a speedy recovery. Praying for his continued well-being and long life,” the PM said.
Karnataka Congress president D K Shivakumar had also posted a message on social media wishing Kharge “a speedy recovery” following his hospitalisation. “May he regain full health soon and continue guiding the Congress Party with his wisdom,” the post said.
